Bride Price/Dowry

The argument goes on to draw attention to the demeaning status that the wife is subjected to as she is viewed as a commodity to be bought and sold. With women subject to this situation, men are favored to control property, income, and labor. Furthermore, dowry violates women's rights because it encourages early marriages in cases where parents are eager to collect dowry on marrying off their daughters. It is against this backdrop that the dowry tradition is slowly eroding.

I beg to differ with the arguement. In my culture dowry is not considered to be
of a 'demeaning status' in that women are to be bought and sold. Dowry is seen
as an appreciation and as a form of respect towards the parents of the lady in
question. the dowry is to let the parents know that the man who will be taking
the daughter's hand in mariiage will be able to take care of the girl
effectively.
Furthermore, in Asian countries such as India, it is the lady who
pays for the dowry price, so does this also violate the man's rights?
